Entry Requirements
Overview
Before traveling to Bali, it's important to understand the entry requirements based on your nationality, visa type, and travel purpose. This guide outlines the essential documents and conditions for a smooth arrival, and pairs closely with our Visa Types and Visa on Arrival guides.
Passport Validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival in Indonesia. Travelers with shorter validity may be denied entry, regardless of whether they plan to use Visa on Arrival or another visa type.
Onward or Return Ticket
Immigration officers may ask for proof of onward travel or a return ticket. This is required for most short-term visas, including Visa on Arrival. Make sure your travel plans align with your intended length of stay.
Visa Requirements
Depending on your nationality and length of stay, you may need a Visa on Arrival, e-Visa, or pre-arranged tourist visa. Visit our Visa Types page for a full breakdown of available options and eligibility.
Health & Vaccination
While COVID-19 restrictions have eased, travelers may still be asked to show proof of vaccination or health insurance. Requirements can change, so reviewing the latest Visa FAQ before departure is recommended.
Customs & Prohibited Items
Indonesia has strict rules on importing certain goods, including medications, drones, and electronics. Declare all items honestly and avoid carrying banned substances. If you're unsure how this affects your stay length, check the Visa Extension guide for more details.
