Visa on Arrival
Overview
The Visa on Arrival (VoA) is the most popular option for short-term travelers visiting Bali. It allows eligible visitors to enter Indonesia for tourism, family visits, or other non-business purposes. If you're unsure whether VoA is right for you, compare it with other options in our Visa Types guide.
Eligibility
Citizens of over 80 countries are eligible for VoA, including Australia, the United States, Canada, the UK, and most EU nations. Eligibility can change, so reviewing the latest entry requirements before traveling is recommended.
How to Apply
The VoA is issued upon arrival at Ngurah Rai International Airport and other major entry points. You’ll need:
- A passport valid for at least 6 months
- A return or onward ticket (required under entry rules)
- Payment of the visa fee (usually around USD $35)
Duration & Extension
The VoA is valid for 30 days and can be extended once for another 30 days. Extensions must be processed at an immigration office in Bali before the initial visa expires. For a full walkthrough, see our Visa Extension guide.
Important Notes
- Overstaying your visa can result in fines or deportation
- VoA cannot be converted to a long-stay visa (consider other visa types if you plan to stay longer)
- Business activities are not permitted under VoA
