Kelingking Beach

A famous cliff-top viewpoint on Nusa Penida’s west coast

Plan a visit to Kelingking Beach on Nusa Penida. Understand the difference between the clifftop viewpoint and the steep beach descent, and prepare for conditions.

Kelingking’s T-Rex-shaped headland and turquoise sea on Nusa Penida

Kelingking is a dramatic headland on Nusa Penida’s west coast, known for the cliff-top view over a T-Rex-shaped peninsula and the beach below. Many visitors come for the viewpoint alone. Reaching the sand requires a separate, steep descent and is a substantially more demanding visit.

Viewpoint or beach descent?

The clifftop viewpoint and the beach are different experiences. The viewpoint is the common photo stop; the path down is steep, uneven, exposed in places, and physically demanding. Do not start the descent unless local access is open, conditions are suitable, and you are confident you can manage both the way down and the climb back up. Wear secure footwear, carry water, and turn back if conditions feel unsafe.

The water below can have powerful surf and currents. Reaching the beach does not mean swimming is safe. Follow local warnings and do not enter the water when conditions are dangerous.

Getting there and planning your stop

Kelingking is reached by road from elsewhere on Nusa Penida. Travel times depend on your starting point, road conditions, and traffic; allow more time than a map estimate suggests. If visiting on a day trip, confirm your harbour, return boat time, and transport plan, and avoid packing too many distant stops into the same day.

See our Nusa Penida transport guide for boat and island travel planning, or browse the Nusa Penida things-to-do guide.

Stay back from cliff edges

Viewpoints are exposed and barriers may be limited. Keep a safe distance from edges, do not climb barriers for photographs, and follow signs and local instructions. Weather, surf, and access conditions can change; check locally on the day.
