Things to Do in Nusa Penida
Explore Nusa Penida’s well-known coastal viewpoints and beaches, with practical advice for grouping stops and visiting safely.
Nusa Penida’s best-known sights are coastal viewpoints and beaches spread across the island. They are not all close together, and roads and access paths can make each stop take longer than expected. Use these areas to shape a realistic plan rather than trying to see every highlight in one day.
West Nusa Penida
- Kelingking Beach: Known for its headland and steep coastal scenery. The viewpoint is separate from the beach below; the descent is steep and demanding, so assess conditions and your ability before attempting it.
- Broken Beach & Angel’s Billabong: Two nearby coastal stops, best treated as viewpoints with changing access and sea conditions.
- Other west-coast stops: Check local access and conditions before visiting exposed shoreline areas.
East Nusa Penida
- East Nusa Penida: Explore Diamond Beach, Atuh Beach, and the Thousand Islands viewpoint; access can involve steep paths and stairs.
Choose a manageable itinerary
West- and east-coast sights are commonly planned as separate clusters because crossing the island takes time. Pick one area for a short visit, check the exact route with your driver or tour operator, and leave room for road delays and the return boat. An overnight stay makes it easier to explore without compressing the day around boat times.

Prioritise safety over the photo
Clifftops may be exposed, paths can be steep or uneven, and currents around the island can be powerful. Respect barriers and local instructions, keep well back from cliff edges, and do not swim unless local conditions and guidance indicate it is safe. Access can change; check locally on the day.
