Getting to Tirta Empul
How to reach Bali's most famous water temple
Tirta Empul is located at Jl. Tirta Empul, Tampaksiring, Gianyar Regency, Bali 80561 — approximately 30km northeast of Denpasar and 45km from Ngurah Rai International Airport. The easiest way to get there is by private car or scooter.
🚗 By Car or Scooter (Recommended)
Most visitors rent a car with driver (IDR 500,000–700,000/day) or a scooter (IDR 60,000–80,000/day). The drive from central Bali takes about 45–60 minutes depending on traffic. From Ubud, the drive is 20–25 minutes. From Seminyak or Canggu, expect 60–70 minutes.
Parking is available at the temple complex — free for motorbikes, IDR 10,000 for cars.
🚕 By Taxi or Ride-Hailing
Grab and Gojek operate in the area. From Ubud, a ride-hailing trip costs approximately IDR 50,000–70,000. From Seminyak or Canggu, expect to pay IDR 150,000–200,000. From Ngurah Rai Airport, budget IDR 250,000–350,000.
🚌 By Public Transport
Limited public transport options exist to Tampaksiring. The most practical option is to take a bemo (minibus) from Denpasar or Ubud to Tampaksiring, then a short taxi or ojek ride (IDR 20,000–30,000) to the temple entrance.

Pro tip: Many tour operators offer day trips from Ubud, Seminyak, or Canggu that include Tirta Empul along with other attractions like Goa Gajah (Elephant Cave) and gunung kawi. These are convenient if you don't want to navigate on your own and want a guided experience.
