Nusa Penida

Broken Beach & Angel’s Billabong

Two neighbouring coastal viewpoints on the island’s west side

Plan a careful visit to Broken Beach (Pasih Uug) and Angel’s Billabong on Nusa Penida, with practical context on access, sea conditions, and safety.

Broken Beach (Pasih Uug) and Angel’s Billabong are neighbouring coastal sights on Nusa Penida’s west side. They are usually visited as a pair, but the coastline is exposed and conditions can change quickly. Treat them as viewpoints, not guaranteed swimming stops.

Broken Beach (Pasih Uug)

Broken Beach is known for a natural rock arch and enclosed-looking coastal formation. Visitors view the scenery from the surrounding clifftop path; it is not a conventional beach with a safe route down to the shore. Keep to established paths and stay behind barriers.

Angel’s Billabong

Angel’s Billabong is a natural rock formation and tidal pool close to Broken Beach. Although it can look calm, waves may surge over the rocks and conditions can become dangerous with little warning. Do not enter the pool or approach its edge when surf is present, and follow any local closure or warning. A photograph is not worth taking a risk on wet, exposed rock.

Getting there and timing your visit

Both sights are reached by road from elsewhere on the island. Road conditions and journey times vary, so allow a generous buffer and confirm the route with your driver or tour operator. If visiting as part of a day trip, check your boat’s arrival and return harbour and avoid scheduling the return too tightly.

See the Nusa Penida transport guide for boat and island travel planning, or explore more stops in the Things to Do guide.

Do not enter the pool when conditions are unsafe

Sudden waves and slippery rock can sweep people into the sea. Stay behind barriers, heed local instructions, and observe the pool from a safe distance. Conditions and access may change; check locally on the day.
